Moric', Blaufrankisch, Osterreich, Austria, 2023

David Schildknecht, the Austrian specialist for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, describes Roland Velich and his Moric wines this way: "Roland Velich is working with old vines in the heart of “Blaufrankisch country” – Mittelburgenland, specifically Lutzmannsburg and Neckenmarkt. (Only his winery is located in Grosshoflein.) His are wines in a style you will not encounter anywhere else in Austria: Blaufrankisch vinified as if it were Grand Cru Burgundy, and from hillsides (including terraces) and pre-clonal vines the like of which you will not find being cultivated in most of Mittelburgenland. One sip is an Oz experience (and I don’t mean Aussie, mates!). From his dreams to his vines, to his vinification, to his retro label, Velich is in a world of his own. He calls his project “Blaufrankisch Unplugged” For an an advanced palate and for those that seek something extra special. Made in an early-drinking style from 'younger' vines (10-50 years old) grown on limestone, primary rock, and loam from Neckenmarkt and Lutzmannsburg. Fermented in open vats and steel tank. A wonderful introduction to Roland's elegant take on Blaufrankisch with its signature characteristics of high-toned aromatic blue fruits, spice, and black tea. Palmento Costanza, Nero di Sei, Rossi, Etna, Italy, 2020

Celebrate all the good things and treat yourselves to a beautiful and elegant blend from Mama Etna. Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio (50/50) Tasting Notes: Deep ruby red in color, this volcanic wine opens with complex aromas of ripe wild strawberries, sour red cherries, and dried mountain herbs, layered over complex undertones of flint, graphite, and cured leather. On the palate, it delivers a striking balance of vibrant red fruit flavors and an unmistakable mineral core born from volcanic sands. The structure is characterized by elegant, silk-like tannins and a crisp, refreshing spine that carries the savory, earthy finish to an impressive length. Estate History: Palmento Costanzo is located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna in the historic Contrada Santo Spirito village of Passopisciaro. The estate centers around a meticulously restored 19th-century "palmento"—a traditional Sicilian winemaking structure where grapes were historically crushed by foot and fermented using gravity. Mimmo and Valeria Costanzo purchased the property in 2011, revitalizing the ancient, pre-phylloxera bush-trained vines that range up to a century old. Today, the family practices certified organic farming, focusing on low-intervention methods that honor centuries of Sicilian winemaking heritage while protecting the unique biodiversity of the active volcano.e

Fattoria San Francesco, Ciro Rosso, Gaglioppo

"Enotria" (the land of wine). That's what the ancient Greeks had to say about the wild deep Southern Italian region Calabria. This region provides the toe to the Italian peninsula and is home of the indigenous variety Gaglioppo that was brought by the earliest Greek colonizers. A magic and untouched landscape more akin to the wilderness of inland Greece and Northern Africa, stupendously Mediterranean. CIRO' is the most important and historical wine denomination f this region. Legend and now archeology has it that the wine of Ciro' was offered to ancient Olympic champions in Greece 3000 years ago. The winery Fattoria San Francesco is nested in a XVI century monastery where vineyards and olive groves were planted. In Italy the winery boasts "cult status" amongst Somms and wine industry peers, having long been considered one of the most traditional and classic producers of Calabrian wine. From those vineyards, the wines from the Fattoria San Francesco are still produced, and the monastery is the center of the agricultural activity. Gallioppo is the most important red wine grape in Calabria and Greco the white. The Iuzzolini family has recently taken over the winery and renovated as well as improved production on all levels. 12 days maceration, selected yeasts, brief passage in used French oak barriques. Mixed array of estate vineyards on white clay in the CIRO DOC. Organically farmed. Superbly classic example of a Calabrian red. Lovely soft and ripe fruit with exotic dark flower

Dessert Wines
What better way to finish your satiating meal than with one of our unique and mouthwatering dessert wines. Compliment with one of our house-made desserts for the win!

El Maestro Sierra, Pedro Ximenez, Jerez de la Frontera, Andalucia, Spain

Site: Jerez de la Frontera Grapes: Pedro Ximénez Solera Aging: 15 years Tasting Notes: A great nose of exotic spices and almost red fruits combine with more classic caramel overtones. With great acidity the wine is light on its feet and almost refreshing. In 1832 the master carpenter José Antonio Sierra founded El Maestro Sierra. As one of the top co-opers in the area, José Antonio was the person who made the barrels for all of the big Sherry houses. After years of making barrels for everyone else he came to the conclusion that he could produce Sherries that were better than what the big Sherry houses were cranking out, so he went about opening up his own little winery. This little up-start Sherry producer was not welcomed in world of nobility-owned Sherry houses and so the local gentry did everything they could to stop him. Fortunately the quality of his sherry prevailed over their efforts and José Antonio Sierra became one of the top Almacenistas (stock-holders) of high quality Sherries. Poking fun at his struggle, the label depicts an allegorical fox hunt with the nobles hunting El Maestro Sierra’s fox.

A wine that will drink now and age well for years to come

A wine that will drink now and age well for years to come
