Essay, Chenin Blanc blend, Agter-Paarl, South Africa
78% Chenin Blanc, 13% Viognier, 9% Roussanne
A medium-bodied white blend made primarily from South Africa's classic white variety, Chenin Blanc. Chenin Blanc is known for its generosity of fruit and friendliness towards most foods. This wine shows typical Chenin Blanc aromas of pineapple, lychee, and guava. A few months of lees contact enhances the texture of this wine, while still maintaining a fruity palate and fresh finish. The addition of Viognier and Roussanne adds complexity with each component contributing its distinctive characteristics to the blend, bringing out hints of pear, melon, and granadilla.
This wine is perfect on its own as an aperitif but will also pair well with a wide range of foods, especially sushi, oysters, Asian curries, sweet-and-sour dishes, and summer salads.
“Essay” refers to the popular abbreviation for South Africa (SA) as well as implying an “assemblage” or blending of things to create a whole greater than its parts. Produced by partners José Conde and Tyrrel Myburgh, Essay Wines consists of two blended wines produced in a Mediterranean style representing the best from the Agter-Paarl area. The vineyards are unirrigated and planted on old Malmesbury shale soils producing wines with distinctive flavor and texture.

Askaneli, Saperavi, Mukuzani. Republic of Georgia
Mukuzani is a dry red wine from the Saperavi grape variety harvested exclusively from the Mukuzani appellation of origin, and aged in oak for one year. Mukuzani by Askaneli manifests the powerful charisma and irresistible charm of the aged, noble wine in addition to the characteristic properties of the classic Mukuzani that are maintained.
The rich ruby color of this wine perfectly complements the dense body and rich tannins of soft Mukuzani. It especially emphasizes the beauty of the wine, the bright harmony of aromas of black plum, blackberry, black pepper, and refined notes of oak. The harmony of this elixir of life is complemented by moderate-high acidity, a firm body, and rich tannins that are ideally crowned with a prolonged finish.

L’Agramante, Ciaülà Côtes du Rhône, France
VARIETIES: 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 5% Counoise
Ciaula means Crow in Sicilian- where the winemaker hails from. It references a character in an old story who works in the mines and one day, while exiting the mines, looks up and sees the moon and realizes the beauty for the first time. The deeper meaning is if you never look up from your work, you may miss your dreams. Older vine Grenache and longer maceration give this cuvée more depth and structure while still being fresh and bright.
